A Town Full of Music:Toyonaka Piano

Pianos no longer used in schools and children's kindergartens are painted by children and transformed into street pianos that anyone can freely play. By utilizing the painted pianos, children are exposed to both music and art, promoting a “city full of music” and a “city full of art.

Linz x Nasushiobara Joint Choir Concert

This joint choir exchange of the two sister cities Nasushiobara (Tochigi Prefecture) and Linz (Austria) started thanks to the engagement of Nasushiobara City as one of the Host Towns of Austria for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This joint choir concert is the highlight of the exchange between students from both cities who will perform Japanese and Austrian songs together. Nasushiobara City is putting much effort into the choir exchange with Austria to give students the opportunity to connect with each other beyond differences in language and culture. This choir exchange project aims to be the embodiment of the Expo’s theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”.

Okinawa's traditional performing arts resounding with heroic and gorgeous dances:Eisa

Eisa is one of Okinawa's traditional performing arts, a traditional event held during the lunar Bon festival to offer offer sacrifices to ancestors.
Each local youth association has a different form of eisa, and they parade around the community dancing on the night of the lunar Bon festival. There are several forms of eisa, including one that uses mainly large drums and clamping drums, one that uses a parangku (a single drum), and one that does not use drums but only hand dances.

Traditional dance performed at festive occasions in Okinawa:Kachaasi

"Kachaasi" is a dance in which the dancers raise their hands high in the air and swing them flexibly and widely from side to side to the sound of the sanshin (three-stringed instrument). The men lightly clasp their hands, while the women open their hands and swing them from side to side.

The word "Kachaasi" means "to stir," and it is said that the name "Kachaasi" comes from the way the dancers wave their hands from side to side above their heads, which looks like they are stirring.
